"DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES" TO LAST TILL 9TH SEASON. THANDIE NEWTON AND CILLIAN MURPHY IN "THE RETREAT". EDI GATHEGI IS DARWIN IN "X-MEN:FIRST CLASS"

Even though Marc Cherry, the creator of one of the best written and most charming shows ever "Desperate Housewives", said last spring that the witty show might end in the upcoming seventh season, it seems it will last till the ninth, which means we shall see three more seasons. Nothing is still certain, but according to Cherry an end date "is in negotiation". The new season, which starts this September on ABC will also bring some new characters to Wisteria Lane, and Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman ... will be joined by Vanessa Williams and Brian Austen Green (aka Mr. Megan Fox).

Last winter, I mentioned that gorgeous Thandie Newton will star in a new thriller "The Retreat" but it seems that the male lead has changed, instead of Jason Isaacs she will partner up with wonderfully talented Cillian Murphy. The two of them will play a husband and wife who rent a remote island cottage while trying to repair their marriage. One day they find a biohazard-suited soldier washed up on the beach, who warns them that everybody on the mainland has been killed by an airborne virus. That's when the psychological game and twists begin.

And "X-Men: First Class" has got a new cast member. Edi Gathegi from the "Twilight" saga, will play Darwin, a mutant which has the powers of self-protection and continuous circumstantial evolution, which allows him to adapt to any situation like growing gills if put underwater, or gaining night vision if too dark. Gathegi joins James McAvoy as Professor Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee and Lucas Till as Havoc, with Kevin Bacon as a villain.

  1. Can you believe I still have three episodes left to watch of last season's Desperate Housewives?! I've been so busy, I have many shows to catch up on still! (except I'm never to busy for True Blood)

  2. All I can say is Jennifer Lawrence: Epic win. Simply fantastic, heh. I am having trouble picturing Xavier as someone not old and bald, and I'm not too excited for their choice of actor. He just doesn't look the part. Thanks for the heads up Dez.

  4. So...this Darwin character...I've never heard of him. Shouldn't the first class of X-Men deal with some of the older characters? It's nice to see Beast and Banshee in the mix, but why throw in a relatively-new character.

    Unless he's been integrated into the past through some reimagining of the X-Universe. I guess that makes it totally alright then.

    And...why is Havok in there? He's younger than Cyclops (I thought). Why not just have an Archangel character instead?

    God, is this going to suck worse than Wolverine? Is that even possible?

    well the whole idea of a reboot is to freshen things up, and thus they've chosen to make all of them young and that is also why they will put in some new mutants. I kinda like them making the whole team younger.

    @Alex
    I imagine there are still other roles in it to be cast :))

  8. The Retreat sounds mind-blowing. Is the guy telling the truth? Can they ever leave? How long can they live on the island by themselves? Awesome.

  9. I reckon that's just his way to play with their minds using lies and scary stories :)
